Gustav Wolf Wire Rope (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.
Steel wire ropes play critical roles in various applications, including mine lifting, cable-stayed bridges, and elevators. However, their exposure to fluctuating forces in complex environments leads to gradual degradation due to abrasion and corrosion. Wire breakage pose serious safety risks and economic losses. Manual inspections are time-consuming, and regular replacements may cause great economic waste. This project aims to address these challenges by developing an electromagnetic acoustic sensing system. The system comprises a metasurface-enhanced electromagnetic acoustic transmitter/receiver and algorithm software . By analyzing acoustic signals from sensors, it non-destructively assesses the structural health of steel wire ropes. Maintenance personnel can then replace wires with metal fatigue or breakage promptly, minimizing potential life and property losses. Additionally, this technology has broader applications in industries like bridge construction and amusement parks. This project contributes to the advancement of non-destructive testing, which is an emerging field that uses digital technologies to improve industrial safety and sustainability.
