Recently, wireless power transfer (WPT) is considered as one of the most pioneering and promising technologies worldwide, owing to its superior flexibility and portability over conventional wiring power transfer. WPT is a fundamental technology that can be adapted to various electronic applications, and its innovativeness will have profound influence on the whole electronic industry. However, the existing induction-type WPT still has the limitations of short charging distance, fixed charging direction and single loading, etc. Therefore, a more advanced and long-term WPT solution is demanded. This project proposes our medium-range power transfer solution based on magnetic coupling resonance theory. Innovative high-Q resonator and tunable impedance matching circuit, including sensing circuit, matching circuit and inverter circuit, will be developed in the seed project. The reference design of the WPT module is targeted at charging efficiency > 50%, and charging distance = 5cm, hence lay solid foundation for the subsequent full project. The WPT is an internationally rapid growing market, the market size of which is forecasted to be 12B in 2020. The developed WPT module can not only be installed in the smart home or in public, to provide charging function to the users; but also be embedded in the wearable electronics, portable devices, smart manufacturing as well as electronic cars, which will bring huge economic returns and social benefits to both local market and overseas market.
