Description:

Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) is an emerging industry trend with huge global market potential, especially in China and APAC (Asia-Pacific). IoV mainly consists of two major communications with (i) V2X (IEEE 802.11p) and (ii) wireless backhaul (3G/LTE) communications, which enables data sharing and application services like navigation, car status monitoring, remote diagnostics, infotainment, route planning and fleet management etc. In-Car Gateway is key technology enabler for IoV systems and applications. It bridges the gap by connecting and interfacing with ECUs (Electronic Control Units) in different car domains and backbone. It retrieves and shares In-Car information and data via OBDii (On-board Diagnostics) interface. It also provides IP connectivity and communications between vehicles, infrastructure, and Internet applications by integrating with V2X (802.11p) and wireless backhaul (IP/LTE) interfaces. This project performs feasibility study and reference design for In-Car gateway software. The Proof-of-Concepts (PoC) demonstration prototype will be built to demonstrate car status monitoring, ECUs information and data sharing, and providing Internet and network connectivity. The technical focus shall be on (i) scalability and flexibility of gateway software design to support multi-vendor standards, protocols (CAN, TCP/IP), interfaces (IP/LTE/802.11p/Wifi/RS232, Bluetooth) and models, and (ii) data security and device authentication. This project serves as “kick-start” for new IoV initiative and technology roadmap of ASTRI. The PoC demonstration prototype will be used to explore IoV/V2X market, and to engage with potential customers and partners. It will arise possible collaboration with local industry, universities, and government departments. With engagement and collaboration with NXP and NTU in Singapore, the proposed gateway prototype shall be integrated into their “Smart Mobility Project” test-bed to showcase and demonstrate different functions.
