The deployment of 5G networks together with the next generation of IoT devices facilitates the availability of huge amount of valuable IoT data which are crucial for Smart City development. However, current IoT data publishing and exchange are conducted by individual data provider and consumer with some inherent issues, and this is a bottle-neck process for application developers who may need different kinds of IoT data from various sources. A distributed ledger approach could be best suited to resolve these problems. This project will develop a scalable platform on 5G network for massive IoT data (static and real-time) publishing and exchange in which data providers and consumers operate in a seamless and secured manner. In particular, the platform will tackle the scalability issue of the accumulated ledger size by using an off-chain storage approach for data storage, and a specific trimming strategy for the ledger records. At the same time, blockchain combined with attributed-based encryption will be used to address the challenges in data publication and discovery, smart contract for transaction, data security and integrity, and privacy protection for users and data. All in all, large amount of IoT data from different sources are becoming available and valuable, and this project technologies will facilitate circulation of these data, catalyzing new applications, services, and commercial activities.
