[Hong Kong, May 15, 2023] The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) invited the Hon Andrew Leung, President of the Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo), and the LegCo delegation to attend the opening ceremony of ASTRI Technovation Centre (ATC) on May 12, aiming to discuss the potential of Hong Kong’s innovation and technology (I&T) sector and promote high-quality economic development with innovations, in order to build Hong Kong into an international smart city and I&T Centre.
To further facilitate the I&T development, ASTRI is committed to enhancing the industry chain and promoting collaboration among government, industry, academia, and research, strengthening connections in the ecosystem. Through the opening of the brand new ATC, ASTRI showcased its fruitful R&D achievements to the LegCo members, including 5G communication technology, smart mobility C-V2X Technology, ArtTech, cybersecurity solutions, and AI applications. These achievements serve as a reference for enacting, amending, and regulating I&T related policies and budgets in the future, deepening the understanding of the critical technologies to develop a smart city. At the same time, ASTRI is actively developing more high-tech, high-value, and high-potential solutions, implementing the R&D outcomes to connect the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Mainland enterprises, and promoting Hong Kong’s R&D capability to the mainland and overseas, accelerating the development of building Hong Kong into an international I&T centre.
Mr. Stephen Ho, Board Member of ASTRI, was delighted to represent ASTRI in receiving the LegCo delegation: “Through the opening of ASTRI Technovation Centre, we have the opportunity to share our experiences and suggestions on I&T development, and we hope that the LegCo members will join us in seizing the golden period of I&T development in the next five years, enhancing policies and measures for Hong Kong I&T ecosystem, attracting talents and promoting high-quality economic development through innovations.”
Dr. Denis Yip, CEO of ASTRI, also expressed his warm welcome to the LegCo delegation: “To become an international I&T Centre and align with the state’s strategic development, we must establish close relationships with various stakeholders in society at all times. By inviting LegCo members to learn about the I&T trends and deepen connections and communication with ASTRI, we hope to gain their support for I&T related policy proposals and budgets, and jointly promote the I&T development of Hong Kong and the GBA.”
