Throughout the collaboration with engaged industry partners, it is known that beside road safety V2X use cases, there are also Smart Mobility roadside services (e.g. city public road, highway, electronic road pricing (ERP), and smart parking etc) with strong market needs. It is market-driven need from road operators and tier-one industry partners for the proposed Smart Mobility Roadside System software, with intelligence, communications and sensing capabilities, and to enable different Smart Mobility services and commercial deployment. In this proposed project, a new Smart Mobility Roadside System software with new software modules will be designed and developed, including (1) sensor fusion engine to collect, sychronize and aggregate roadside sensor data; (2) intelligence engine to determine roadside situations and provide real-time policy actions; (3) policy engine to define local specific policies for different roadside services; and (4) Edge interfaces to support standard V2X messages and information exchange between vehicles and roadside infrastructure. Besides, a new Traffic Simulation software (needed by the road operators) for planning and verifying performance of roadside services and deployment will also be designed and developed. The expected outcomes of this proposed project will be (1) requirements and specifications for Smart Mobility Roadside System software and service scenarios; (2) high level software design with new software modules; (3) software implementation for enabling trials and deployment with partners; (4) Traffic Simulation software for planning and verifying performance; (5) test report for system integration and testing; and (6) possible software module design and algorithms for patents.
