Food and Environmental Hygiene Department

Food safety is critical to the health of the consumer, it is not negotiable. Perishable food presents many challenges for the statutory Food Authority as they are more prone to the growth of bacteria due to any unsuitable product processing, packaging, distribution, and storage. Efficient and accurate cold food management plays a vital role in food safety assurance.

This project aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of cold food import control management of the importation of chilled meat and poultry from the Mainland by land by FEHD/Centre for Food Safety (CFS) which accounted for 90% of the total chilled meat and poultry import into Hong Kong in 2018.

• Build a prototype of the Cold Food Import Safety Management (CFISM) platform combining Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) with Internet of Things (IoT) to track provenance, streamline processing, mitigate fraud risk, and provide end-to-end transparency and continuous compliance tracking of the cold food import for FEHD/CFS.
• Validate platform benefits and evangelize the change through a trial with FEHD/CFS at its Man Kam To checkpoint.
