    This project aims to develop a high performance NAND Flash controller platform which includes the silicon IP, the test chip with SATA and the development FPGA board platform with the related firmware. It will address the tremendous market demands of high performance NAND Flash storage application, especially the potential PC market needs for the mass data storage. It will be the core and essential technology for the SSD (Solid State Disk), which is considerable the disruptive technology to substitute the hard disk technology, due to its outstanding advantage like slim design, anti-shaking, high data throughput, etc. In this project, the advanced and robust multi-mode ECC (error correction code) engine will be developed in order to tackle the relative high error probability issue of the MLC (multi level cell) NAND Flash. The programmable scheme of the multi-mode ECC engine provides the flexibility for the end product to integrate either the SLC (single level cell) or MLC NAND Flash memory chip, or hybrid design, which will offer both cost effective and the relative stable storage solution for PC market. This will also be the key to facilitate the more cost effective MLC NAND Flash deployment in the PC market. In addition to the ECC engine, this project will develop the multi-channel accessing, the wear-leveling technique to improve the data throughput and enhance the endurance of the NAND Flash based storage platform. This project fits ASTRI’s technology roadmap to high performance controller and connectivity technology and provides industry with high performance and low cost solution through partnership and technology transfer. And this project is endorsed by local industry partners. This benefits ASTRI’s R&D to realize a high quality product with industry focus and it promotes technology transfers.
