The world global satellite transmission is expected to generate 125.5 billion USD service revenue by 2030. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) will focus on Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) standardization in Rel-18, 19 and 20 (5G-Advanced) in the coming years, towards the future 6G. This project is to develop the architecture and system design for NTN Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver compatible with 3GPP specifications towards 5G-Advanced/6G applications. We will develop fully integrated RF transceiver architecture design and system-level design, complete system and module specification definition and link budget calculation towards 5G-Advanced/6G applications. Novel wideband millimeter-wave RF circuit and layout design of key modules in advanced CMOS technology will also be developed. This seed project will lay a solid foundation for the pipelined NTN RF transceiver development platform project and enhance the competitive edge for companies in telecommunication ecosystem in Hong Kong, GBA and Mainland China, and enable Hong Kong to pioneer the NTN RF chip design in the world.
