The project aims to develop and apply Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technologies onto 4G/5G network edge. The recent developments in 4G/5G industry and standards (such as mobile edge computing - MEC, network slicing, control/user plan separation - CUPS) are leading towards data offloading to Internet at network edge. Application enablement is another key element in future 4G/5G networks. Cloud computing enables rapid ways to build and develop applications. The project aims to address the issues, using SD-WAN technologies, in application development and deployments that utilizes the 4G/5G networks, mobile edge, and cloud computing. First, it enables application developer to control the service network topology, resources in 4G/5G network and cloud disregard of the underlying networking technologies and topologies. Second, it provides end-to-end service management for application developer to oversee and control the network and computing resources. Third, the unstable network performance and quality would have negative effect to the applications. The traffic optimization will enhance the QoS of edge/cloud connectivity to improve the effectiveness. The project team is collaborating with wireless and network equipment vendors in the industry with solid industry contribution to the project and commercialization plan to realize the deploy the licensed technologies.
