Population ageing is definitely a global problem, especially in Hong Kong. Among the elderly, the most common health issue is chronic eye disease. At present, there is only one way to prevent chronic eye diseases, which is through early detection of eye diseases through the use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). However, OCT requires costly equipment, and is definitely a luxury for the elderly with low incomes.

ASTRI developed a Preventive Eye Retina Checking Solution in the hope that OCT systems can be made affordable for the public. OCT is an imaging test that does not require any invasive procedures. It takes cross-section photographs of your retina using light waves. The new solution has been verified in collaboration with a local medical school. ASTRI hopes to make regular OCT examinations available to everyone through a future home-use eye care system, so as to achieve better telemedicine technologies and make the early diagnosis and treatment for all patients a reality. ️
