The project deliverables are conceived and planned to meet customers’ technology development and product design requirements. These deliverables are grouped in four licensable packages: (1) WiSMAC IP Core Design Package • ASIC hardware design delivered in synthesizable RTL format • Firmware for MAC and WiNET protocols • Software for host driver, API, and associated test programs • Verification models, test bench, test and synthesis scripts, and test vectors • WiSMAC IP Core Designer’s Manual (2) WiSMAC PDK (Product Design Kit) • A pair of fully tested and functional PCBs with WiSMAC functionalities integrated • Sample application software including video streaming and WiNET / IGRS capabilities • PDK Hardware and Software design files, schematics, and documents (3) Mesh Networking Enhancement IP Package • Mesh networking system design documents • Mesh networking firmware delivered in source code or object code format • Source code for API (4) WiSMAC Discrete IC Package* • 4 engineering samples from MPW (Multi Project Wafer) targeting 0.13 m CMOS process • Firmware for MAC and WiNET protocols • Software for host driver, API, and associated test programs • Design documents including data sheet, system designer’s guide, and application notes In addition to the above licensable package deliverables, the project will include the design and construction of the following demonstrations: • ASTRI’s Mesh Networking Demo • WiNET-based Video Streaming Demo • WiNET / IGRS Support Capability Demo * The availability of the Discrete IC Package deliverable is contingent on receiving the in-kind contribution from semiconductor fabrication company, as the MPW costs for producing the IC samples would be waived as an in-kind contribution.

The rapid adoption of digital media products and the growing use of multimedia content in home CE (consumer electronics) environment are generating the demands for interconnecting CE devices wirelessly in a personal networking setting. While wireless USB (Universal Serial Bus) standards, based on UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) radio technologies, have been applied to address PC-based applications, the industry has yet to develop standard-based solutions for digital home wireless applications involving intelligent CE centric (non-PC) products and devices. This research project focuses on the creation and design of a real time, high performance protocol processing controller device applying wireless IP networking protocols for high speed digital home wireless multimedia applications. The research will create technologies, IP’s and a MAC (Medium Access Control) design solution that is compatible with relevant WiMedia, IGRS, and DLNA standards and interfaces. The resultant technologies and advanced design solution will support both WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Networking) stand-alone systems and embedded applications, enabling local electronic manufacturers to create new high speed wireless multimedia consumer devices and products.
