Mr Andy LAM
There are three major deliverables in this project: (1) Seamless indoor and outdoor geographic information system (GIS) with a generic and layered architectural design accommodating future indoor positioning technologies: - Map server and web/mobile client (supporting industrial standards such as Tile Map Service (TMS)) (target >1K concurrent access) - Distributed cache and database mechanism design - Distributed map rendering design - Smart navigation algorithm design (2) Network design for massive telemetry data: - Network design for generic telemetry data (e.g. car park information) - Network design for various government department data sources and formats (3) Arrange and conduct trial with government departments such as EKEO and LandsD - Outdoor GIS with telemetry data e.g. smart parking application - Indoor and outdoor GIS with telemetry data and other government data sources e.g. smart community application

Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO

The ubiquitous smart phones, being able to connect to the internet via ever advancing wireless technologies, and also GPS and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) enabled, start to realize the potential of Internet of Things (IoT). This will impact the operation of society in a large scale paving the next wave of innovations and economic activities. A Geographic Information System (GIS) providing both indoor and outdoor geo-spatial information is a critical component to realize the potential of IoT. This GIS system needs to have information updated frequently enough to be useful, be scalable enough to be used by a sizeable population, and be able to consolidate both indoor and outdoor information in a seamless presentation. This project will design and realize a scalable architecture for a seamless integrated indoor and outdoor GIS capable of supporting real time data capturing and monitoring, also featuring algorithms for smart navigation and efficient mesh networks for IoT telemetry data. In this project, trials will be deployed in Kowloon East to demonstrate the developed technologies. Know-how and technology in the area of scalable indoor and outdoor GIS will also be transferred to Lands Department (LandsD) for providing open map access within the HKSAR Government open data framework. Moreover, LandsD will provide periodic update of the map data used in this project. The Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) of the Development Bureau, in a letter to ASTRI (in Annex), shows support for the project and recognizes that the success of the deliverables can bring benefits to EKEO’s Smart City Pilot and the Digital 21 Strategy of the HKSAR Government in leading Hong Kong into a Smart City.
