Eyes are the most delicate and sophisticated sense organs of the human body. People use their eyes to perceive the color and shape of external objects. Therefore, eye health is of crucial importance to the wellbeing of people. According to the reports by World Health Organization (WHO), at least 2.2 billion people have a vision impairment or blindness globally, which renders a widespread and profound impact to various aspects including but not limited to economic growth and social stability. In this regard, eye health has increasingly received great attention, and various eye monitoring devices have also accordingly emerged. As a complex system, eye consists of an anterior (front) segment and the posterior (back) segment. The anterior segment is composed of the cornea, iris and lens, and the posterior segment consists of the vitreous, retina, choroid and sclera (White shell). Specifically, damage on different structures causes different eye diseases. Therefore, it is both time-consuming and labor-intensive to use a variety of medical devices to monitor different parts of the eye during the daily eye examination. At the same time, the cost of eye monitoring devices is quite high. And it is even prohibitively expensive to purchase multiple eye monitoring devices at once. In this project, we will specially design and develop an eye monitoring system which encompass multiple functions. The system can provide corneal information, fundus information and axial length information, so that the user can operate a single easy-to-use device to realize the inspection of multiple eye parts. It significantly reduces the complexity of eye health inspection, improves measurement efficiency, and reduces the collective costs. In this way, it offers strong support to eye health coverage in distressed areas, routine monitoring of family eye health and tele-ophthalmology in the future.
