Description:

Eyes are the most delicate sense organs, and eye health is of crucial importance to wellbeing. According to World Health Organization (WHO), at least 2.2 billion people suffer from vision impairment globally, which renders a profound impact to various aspects including but not limited to economic growth and social stability. Regular monitoring and early screening can prevent 50% of vision impairment and maintain excellent visual quality. As a complex system, damage on different structures causes different eye diseases. Therefore, it’s both time-consuming and labor-intensive to use several medical devices to monitor different parts of eye during the examination. Meanwhile, the cost of ophthalmic devices is quite high. And it’s more expensive to purchase multiple devices. In this project, we will specially design and develop a multi-functional eye health device that can be used for regular monitoring and early screening. It provides anterior & posterior cornea information, anterior segment cross-sectional information, fundus image, axial length, and pupillary examination. End-users can use one device to perform inspection of multiple eye parts, which significantly improves measurement efficiency and reduces the collective cost. Moreover, it will provide strong support to eye health checkup in economically disadvantaged areas, routine eye monitoring for family and tele-ophthalmology in the future.
