The coming wave of Flat Panel Display (FPD) and LCD market has been identified – from the CRT replacement market, to the value creation (touch panel) and new market creation (Public Information Display, PID). This project aims to develop novel technologies platform, such as IR scanning and IR embedded backlight touch sensing system, multi-touch tracking and algorithms, and readability enhancement for high brightness ambient, to create additional values for LCD and enhance the competitiveness to explore this new markets. The targeted deliverables of the project consist of the following items: 1) Low cost touch sensing system – For large size (19”-24”) LCD display with single touch and simple multi-touch identification control module and targeted to the LCD monitor market 2) Low cost touch sensing system – For large size (>40”) high brightness (≥2000nits) outdoor LCD display with single touch and simple multi-touch detection functions, power saving and readability enhancement processing control module 3) High performance multi-touch sensing system – For large size (>40”) LCD display with multi-touch identification, moving touch tracking & pattern recognition processing control module In order to achieve these targets, ASTRI will develop and integrate the technologies including low cost touch sensing and high performance multi-touch sensing technologies, real time multi-touch identification and moving touch recognition algorithms, and high brightness ambient readability enhancement technology, etc. Moreover, the project will be endorsed by local industrial partners and universities. This allows high quality R&D to realize a high quality product with performance and cost advantages to penetrate the market, promote the technology transfer to industry, and tighten the collaboration between industry and universities in Hong Kong.
