The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under four Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Trust and AI Technologies, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IoT Sensing and AI Technologies.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, Intelligent Manufacturing and Re-Industrialization, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred over 800 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 900 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify the pain points of industries and explore how ASTRI’s capabilities and IP may lead to new R&D projects that provide the solutions.
  • Devise and execute sales strategies to secure new business, including high-level sales calls, aggressive networking and marketing activities. Underpinned by competitive analysis, ingenious presentation and proposal to client meetings.
  • Report to the Director of FinTech, PropTech & Art-Tech to drive the growth to the territories
  • Explore licensing and commercialization opportunities of ASTRI’s comprehensive IP suite. Facilitate licensing and commercialization by engaging system integrators in the ecosystem.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to strategize and build pipelines of collaboration projects.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of ASTRI’s capabilities and innovations to identify opportunities with prospective clients;
  • Participate in the preparation and follow-up of those projects, where appropriate.
  • Leverage existing connections to develop and grow the client base in the targeted sector; and
  • Work with researchers to initiate research projects with different clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 6 years of work experience in sales/ marketing/ business development in the technology sector. Engineering/Science background will be a plus. Candidates with less experience will be considered for a Manager position;
  • Experienced in sales and business development with a track record of building and growing customer bases. Possess strong sales, pitching and stakeholder management skills;
  • A good understanding of new technology areas such as FinTech, IoT, 5G, AI, Big Data and Cybersecurity would be advantageous;
  • Interested in technologies with strong business acumen and a strategic mindset;
  • An independent self-starter with a sales-oriented and meticulous personality, an aggressive working attitude and a strong desire to succeed;
  • Good command of English and Chinese, fluent Putonghua is a plus;
  • Technical background plus sales experience preferred;
  • Experience in working on or working with research projects preferred;
  • Experience in either FinTech, PropTech, Construction or Art-Tech preferred; and

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical and dental benefits, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
