In the Hong Kong Smart City blue-print, 5G has been defined as an important element in the Smart City Infrastructure to enable smart city applications demanding high bandwidth, massive internet-of-things and low latency communications. To enable Smart City applications using 5G involves not only deployment of base stations, but also an architecture with the ability to flexibly build applications that can leverage 5G connectivity. The project aims to research, define, develop and deploy the Smart City infrastructure enabled by 5G, including: - flexible sharing of resources (computing and network) between access edge, data center edge and centralized cloud; - flexible reuse of network and computing infrastructure to support multiple applications; and - service orchestration to allow data sharing between data sources (e.g. camera/sensors). The project team will focus on considering the deployment and application scenarios for Hong Kong specifically, including considering the potential use cases and application scenarios including Smart Mobility and Smart Government.
