As underwater marine research is essential for investigating and mitigating the effects of climate change, the demand for unmanned underwater and offshore operations is increasing. However, battery capacity is a major limiting factor and how to increase operation time underwater is our subject of study.

To deal with the problems caused by climate change on our ocean, ASTRI has achieved major breakthroughs in third-generation semiconductors, power converters and wireless charging solutions. The team developed a high-efficiency wireless charging solution to extend the working range and operation time of unmanned vehicles for underwater and offshore applications. This novel solution is able to improve power transfer efficiency by up to 90%, together with enhanced safety features and good reliability. It can be used for a wide variety of subsea and offshore activities, such as sewage cleaning, marine power vessels, maritime data collection, etc.
