This invention relates to a smoke detection technique targeting at suppressing the occurrence of false alarms, especially those originated from cooking. Multi-wavelength scattering has been used in false alarm suppression. However, the conventional way of tracking a static parameter proves ineffective in false alarm suppression. In this invention, a multi-dimensional metric would dynamically track a slope of a relationship between scattered light of multiple wavelengths of scattered light being monitored. An optical measuring chamber would be configured for wide-scattering-angle signal collection using a light trapping sub-chamber having a light-guide diaphragm to implement this multi-dimensional metric monitoring. In this way, the fire alarm would be initiated more accurately with false alarms suppressed. Additionally, the alarm would be reset timely once the fire is extinguished.
