由於全球人口老化和生活方式的改变,有相当数量的人患有慢性疾病,需要家庭护理和长期护理服务。在香港,有大约70万糖 尿病患者。其中只有约40 万患者被识别。未经监控的糖尿病是致命的,因为它会导 致心血管併发症和肾脏问题。此外,患有糖尿病的儿童数量在过去10年间增加了10倍。有效的血糖水平管理对保持患者健康至关重要,亦可避免其他慢性疾病的发生。目前最迫切的是在症状出现之前作检测,筛选出患有糖尿病或前期糖尿病的患者。医生建议糖尿病患者养成自我血糖监测的习惯。但目前侵入式的血糖测量方法,令公众对定期检测血糖産生了心理障碍,并为糖尿病患者及家人带来经济负担。 在这个项目中,我们的目标是设计和开发一种可作非侵入式血糖测量的嵌入式光学系统。用户可以很容易使用该非侵入性的设备,即时地测量血糖。该设备可用 於筛选前期糖尿病患者及给糖尿病患者作频繁的血糖测量。
