Mobile WiMAX provides IP-based application services, Quality of Service (QoS), robust security, user scalability and most importantly, seamless mobility handover for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA). According to current market developments and customer engagement activities, the WiMAX market for local/China market will be on: i) developing countries deployment, for example, SE Asia and African countries, ii) vertical application such as emergency communications. For developing countries, the cost is a sensitive consideration factor and it is more relax on the redundancy requirements. On the other hand, since WiMAX is capable for transmitting high-speed, realtime, high-bandwidth data for both uplink and downlink, WiMAX has very good potentials in emergency communications, such as providing mobile surveillance services. In both cases, as a live network providing service, management system must be in place to manage the configurations, faults and performance of the WiMAX network entities (ASN-GW and base stations). Through active engagements and discussions with our industry partners, there are still missing pieces yet to be addressed by the project team. Complete Network & Service Management (which can manage integrated ASN-GW and BTS), and a Low-cost Standalone ASN-GW hardware platform option can further facilitate their Mobile WiMAX development and deployment, and help them to address the market more effectively. The project team has completed CWMS project and working on ASN-GW project. This strategy so far generates extensive industry engagement and partnerships. For instance, contracts are signed with Comba, Altai Technologies, Pacific Systems, MTI and Neomeridian on CWMS and ASN-GW technologies and they are actively deploying CWMS worldwide. With the licensed technologies, the equipment vendors are moving closer to provide network edge solutions to their customers. The project team will leverage the technology platforms and industry partners developed and built in the CWMS and ASN-GW projects. In addition, over 10% contract/termsheet is signed by the project team in related to WNEP project.
