    With the recent advancement in miniature camera actuators in the mobile phone industry, the optical auto-focus function will be a standard function in every mobile phone in coming years. Since 2007, there have been quite a few foreign mobile phones equipped with auto focus functions. It is expected that starting 2009, the auto-focus function can be found in some of the large mobile phone brands in China. In the rapid deployment of the auto-focus compact camera modules (CCMs) in mobile phones, there will be major demand for both small size and low cost. The main motivation of our project is to develop a technology to respond to these two challenges. The main targets of this project include 1) Develop novel wafer level chip scale camera actuators for compact camera auto-focus application 2) Develop novel chip scale compact camera modules having auto-focus function for camera phone We will integrate ASTRI’s IP (including the novel actuator technology, novel camera module packaging technology, optical engineering and wafer level processing technologies) and create a next generation mobile phone camera solution. This project allows us to carry out high quality R&D and realize an advance technology for the Hong Kong camera industry. We will promote this technology and license it to the local industry including the PRD area.
