This project focuses on developing a new platform technology--intelligent antenna sub-assemblies. The sub-assembly platform technology can be applied across all three of the antenna segments requested by regional and local industry: 1) Multi-band & Miniature antenna sub-assemblies use passive and active antenna design IP to create multiband/mode miniature antennas for future wireless devices; 2) Beam-forming antenna sub-assemblies use several antennas to focus the antenna beam at low-cost, while increasing range of the system; 3) MIMO antenna sub-assemblies integrate several antennas together for high data rate applications. The platform technologies developed will have immediate application within the industry, including smaller digital TV antennas, miniature sized SD RF modules + antennas, miniature GPS antennas, and indoor beam-forming to increase range and data capacity. The new platform technology will enable the Antenna and RF group to work together both with industry and cross-domain within ASTRI.
