In this full project, LTE Small Cell baseband core technologies will be developed and integrated with a commercially available, mainstream, and highly integrated SoC device. LTE Small Cell is a set of base-stations including Femtocell, Picocell, Metrocell and Microcell deploying in a diverse environment. The future heterogeneous network will contain these Small Cells to enable flexible, high capacity and low cost deployment. Compared with the LTE Femtocell, the LTE Small Cell baseband core supports additional new features such as higher mobility, larger cell size and more advanced MIMO, which will be explored in this project. The deliverables of this project include an LTE Small Cell physical layer simulation platform for algorithm development and verification, an LTE Small Cell physical layer reference design implemented on a highly integrated mainstream SoC device, and a complete test infrastructure to verify and validate the reference design against the 3GPP standard requirements. ASTRI has become a global leading solution provider of LTE Rel-8/Rel-9 Femtocell core technologies. This project extends our leadership from LTE Femtocell to LTE Small Cell which has much larger market. This also creates a competitive edge for local/regional design houses, silicon suppliers and equipment manufacturers and helps them to have an excellent position in LTE market. Therefore, many companies have shown their strong interests in transferring technologies to be developed from this project: Innofidei (Hong Kong) Technology and Freescale Semiconductor Hong Kong have already decided to contribute to this project. Many other companies such as Sunnada, Mindspeed, Rohde & Schwar, 21 Vianet, FiberHome, Centron are also aggressively discussing with ASTRI regarding transfer and/or leverage the technologies developed from this project.
