Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology combining virtual objects or information with real life images through sensors (e.g. camera, GPS) and display units (e.g. LCD, goggle, smartphone etc) in order to enhance users perception of the reality. AR has been widely utilized in the commercial sector for product design, advertising, gaming and education. This is a follow-on project to the AR Seed Project that has been completed. The objectives of the full project include : - Develop advanced AR technology (e.g. marker-less tracking/deformable surface tracking, object recognition and GPS mapping.) - Enhance and add hardware acceleration to the object recognition algorithms to be implemented on FPGA - Identify new AR applications to address the needs of local industry and secure industry contribution Our technologies should provide benefits to the commercial sectors such as product design, advertising, gaming and education etc.
