Job Description


The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under four Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Trust and AI Technologies, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IoT Sensing and AI Technologies.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, Intelligent Manufacturing and Re-Industrialization, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred over 800 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 900 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

Job Responsibilities

  •        R&D of AIOT systems and intelligent equipment, including robotics, sensing devices, electronic control and connectivity protocol design.
  •       Work as a chief system architect. Lead prototype development, in-house verification and/or on-site validation
  •        Design and develop the hardware, software, firmware and data processing algorithm for intelligent system/equipment involving AIOT techniques
  •        Work with government departments and industry partners to develop solution, and generate project proposals
  •        Work as leader of R&D projects to take full responsibility from end-to-end project tasks include project scoping, budgeting, project delivery and productization.
  •        Work with internal stakeholders and industry SIs to review project solutions
  •        Manage contracts with clients and suppliers, ensure processes and regulations compliance
  •        Lead the AIOT team to implement project requirements by technologies research and integration
  •        Lead the AIOT team to do research and develop cutting-edge technologies/patents/IPs.
  • Develop the team and build up sustainable core competencies to lead the way in the AIOT industry.

  •        Ph.D. holder or master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science/Automation, or related disciplines
  •        8+ years of experiences in intelligent/AIOT HW design and Embedded platform programming
  •        Proven experience in productization processes and project management
  •        Proficiency in programming with C/C++/C#, Python and/or other programming languages
  •        Knowledge on PCB Schematic & Layout design
  •        Familiar with Government funding proposal submission and approval processes, and hands-on experience in writing Government funding application proposal
  •        Good command of both written/spoken English and/or Chinese

Appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical and dental benefits, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work under a five-day week schedule.
