The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: AI and Big Data Analytics; Communications; Cybersecurity, Cryptography and Trusted Technologies; Integrated Circuits and Systems; and IoT and Sensors. It is applied across five core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, and Application Specific Integrated Circuits.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred over 800 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 900 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities

  • Report to the Vice President, be responsible for understanding the needs of HK & GBA industry and defining corresponding technology development roadmap in 3rd generation semiconductor.
  • Implement 3rd generation semiconductor technology development roadmap with 5-years project plan and prepare proposals for funding applications from HK & GBA governments and industry collaborators.
  • Recruit, develop and build a strong team to execute the projects, establish a strong patent and new product portfolios in 3rd generation semiconductor and its applications.
  • Promote, market and commercialize 3rd generation semiconductor related technologies and products to be developed through the projects in HK & GBA.
  • Initiate, coordinate and consolidate R&D resources from different organizations (e.g., universities, RIs, etc.) to promote international collaborations and establish the technology leadership and enhance the competitiveness of local industry in 3rd generation semiconductor field.


  • PhD in the Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science & Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 15+ years’ working experience in the semiconductor industry with well-established expertise in various technology & product development; 10+ years of people management experience with well-developed leadership skills in strategy planning, resource integration, team establishment, plan execution and effective communication.
  • In-depth understanding of 3rd generation semiconductor technology development trend and rich experience in SiC- & GaN-based power device and power module development are must.
  • Expertise in the PMIC (power management IC) and power system and wide network & collaboration with universities and companies is a plus.
  • Good written and communication skills in English; Strong team spirit and interpersonal skills; Independent, responsible, aggressive and outgoing character, and Live ASTRI values.


The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical and dental benefits, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
