Victor Cheung Sui Pung, Associate Principal Engineer, ICS
Victor Cheung received his PhD in 2018 and joined ASTRI after graduation. Before joining ASTRI, he has had 10 years of experience in doing research in university. His research interests include highly efficient power converter, LED driver, and grid-connected inverter.
Q. Tell us more about your area of research.
In ASTRI, my research area mainly focusses on the development of Direct Current (DC) building technology, a new green technology aiming for a high degree of energy efficiency. Here, I developed two highly efficient power conversion system to improve the building electricity supply efficiency.
Q. In particular, what issues are you hoping to address with your research? Any challenges?
Our team has created a DC solution which has been installed in one of the meeting rooms in the Electrical and Mechanical Service Department (EMSD) headquarter to demonstrate our innovative DC building technologies. This impactful technology reduces building’s energy usage which is an essential element of a smart city. I am thrilled that one major part of the system in the DC office is developed by me.
Q. What are some of your proudest moments in your career so far?
I am so proud that the technologies we invented have been recognized by both the company and the industry. We have won a lot of international and local awards including Geneva Invention and Hong Kong’s prestigious ICT award; we also earned the outstanding team, outstanding employee in ASTRI.
