Pico-Projector Platform
This platform aims at developing miniature projection modules, 3D system and interactive projection system by integrating compact solid state light mudule (LED/Laser) technologies, micro-display (LCoS/DLP) or scanning mirror, optical projection engine, projection image processing and novel detection/ recognition technologies for the next generation "mobile" display as well as interactive mobile I/O devices applications. By 2010, MPT has filed five US patents for this technology and received two major awards including Product Innovation Award, National Solid State Lighting (SSL) Innovation Contest in 2008, Product Innovation Award, Nanhai Cup National Solid State Lighting (SSL) Innovation Contest in 2010.
Pico-Projector Optical Engine
Pico-projector offers mobility with smalkl form factor and capability to display large images. A tiny projector built into cellphones, digital cameras or PDAs can provide users with clear and full colour images for personal use or multi-user sharing, while standalone pocket-sized projectors can be used for small group meetings.
In 2009, MPT developed the world's smallest embedded and standalone pico-projector optical engine at <4cc and <10cc repectively.

3D Pico-Projector
Watching stereo cinemas needs not be in theatres anymore. MPT’s dual-mode 3D pico-projector adopts polarization technology based on LCoS micro-display panel, allowing switching between 2D and 3D images as well as active/passive polarization. The integrated design features an ultra-compact-sized pico-projector which can project 3D images with high brightness, high contrast and high resolution at anytime and anywhere. MPT demostrated the world’s fi rst 3D dualmode pico-projector with industry partners during CES in 2010.

By 2010, the following specifications have been achieved:
- Dual-panel 3D pico-projection module
- Size: 40 cc, resolution: WSVGA, brightness: >120 lm
- Size: <80 cc, resolution: 720P/XGA, brightness: >200 lm

Interactive Projection System
An interactive projection system integrates novel projector engine with single or multiple projection screens, image sensors and light sources. It also combines unique ambient adaptive detection and recognition algorithm to adapt to the human eye physiology. Interactive projection has become one of the mainstream technologies of the next generation interactive mobile input/output devices (e.g. keyboard, writing pad, touch panel, camera, etc.).

- Adaptive ambient background detection and recognition
- Skin colour detection algorithm to detect hands tapping, gesture
- Image comparison algorithm to detect motion
- Synchronization driving scheme
Scanning Mirror for Pico-Projector
The objective is to establish a MEMS device design platform ready for mass production in MEMS foundry. Accomplishments include a Lissajous electro-static (ES) Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical System (MOEMS) device with package and system integration (scanning mirror). The projection system can be applied to imaging devices such as head-up display (HUD) for automobile application, helmet mounted display (HMD) and pico-projector in consumer electronics applications. This MEMS device can also be applied to barcode scanner, tracking system, laser printers, touch screen, etc.
