About LTE
LTE is the Long-Term Evolution wireless standard defined by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) following the evolution of GSM, WCDMA, HSPA. It features high data rate and short latency using OFDM and MIMO technologies. LTE has been endorsed by most major cellular service providers around the world.
About TD-LTE
LTE includes two different modes: FDD (frequency-division duplex) and TDD (time-division duplex). The LTE TDD mode, also referred as TD-LTE, has been endorsed as the evolution of TD-SCDMA, which is one of the 3G technologies used by China Mobile. As the largest operator in the world, China Mobile is very keen in rolling out TD-LTE services. In addition, due to its spectrum flexibility, TD-LTE is gaining great interest overseas. For example, TD-LTE trials have been planned in Japan, India, and Europe. “Due to the recognized demand for radio technologies for unpaired spectrum bands, TD-LTE will be able to exploit global economies of scales similar to LTE FDD”, stated GSA (Global Mobile Suppliers Association) in its LTE Market Report in August 2010.
About ASTRI’s TD-LTE Technology
In early 2008, ASTRI started developing TD-LTE baseband core technologies, including core technologies for Terminal and Small Cell (i.e., Home eNodeB).
Worldwide Recognition of ASTRI’s LTE Technologies
ASTRI at Shanghai World Expo
ASTRI worked together with its industry partners and China Mobile to successfully bring up TD-LTE services at the Shanghai World Expo. TD-LTE dongles used at the Expo were based on the baseband SoC device ASTRI produced with its partner Innofidei. The demonstration was made before many Expo visitors, including Mainland and Hong Kong government officials.

Press Releases by IOT Partners
Three global tier-one infrastructure vendors (press releases below), highlighted the IOT success between their TD-LTE base stations and the dongle produced by ASTRI and its industry partner:
- “ZTE, ASTRI and Innofidei completed multi-UE Field Test with TD-LTE data cards” – released by ZTE on 25 May, 2010.
- “Motorola teams with Innofidei and ASTRI promote TD-LTE Eco-system through use of world’s first TD-LTE dongle at Shanghai Expo” – released by Motorola on 1 June, 2010.
- “Alcatel-Lucent collaborates with Innofidei and ASTRI to complete the first high definition video call over China Mobile’s TD-LTE network at the World Expo” – released by Alcatel-Lucent on 2 June, 2010.
Recognition by China Mobile and NGMN
The NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Network) organization and China Mobile jointly hosted a LTE TDD/FDD summit in Shanghai in June 2010. ASTRI was listed as a world-class LTE technology provider in the brochure, together with a few other global leaders.
