Technology Overview

ASTRI’s TD-LTE terminal baseband core technologies include the physical layer and lower MAC layer reference design on prototype hardware, which contains programmable devices such as FPGA, DSP and CPU.

High-Level Technology Specifications

  • Compliant to LTE 3GPP Release 8 standard
  • Multiple bandwidth: 20 MHz, 15 MHz, 10 MHz, and 5 MHz
  • MIMO technologies: Tx-div, 2x2 MIMO, 4x2 MIMO and beam-forming
  • Peak data rates: 100 Mbps on downlink and 50 Mbps on uplink
  • Common architecture for TDD and FDD

Reference Design Scope

  • Algorithms and architecture design
  • Physical layer and lower MAC layer implementation on prototype hardware
  • Validated through IOT (inter-operability testing) with commercial TD-LTE base stations when integrated with industry partner’s RF solution and protocol stacks

Commercialization Examples

  • Successfully licensed TD-LTE terminal baseband core reference design to Innofidei, a leading IC design company on the Mainland
  • Assisted Innofidei in taping out the world’s first TD-LTE terminal baseband SoC, which China Mobile put on show in its TD-LTE deployment at the Shanghai World Expo
  • Completed IOT using TD-LTE data cards containing the world’s first baseband SoC with base stations from three global tier-one infrastructure vendors

Benefits of ASTRI’s Reference Design

  • Fully compliant with 3GPP specifications and verified through IOT
  • Advanced algorithms and hardware efficient architecture that fit low-cost and low-power SoC devices
  • MIMO technologies built-in
  • Can be easily extended to support LTE FDD/TDD dual-mode
