  Optoelectronic Interface Circuit (OEIC)

Optoelectronic interface circuits provide the connection between the electrical world of the digital system and the optical world of the fiber transmission system. The chip can be optimized according to specific applications and provides value-added functionality.

The key technologies of optical transceiver modules are optoelectronic chip, the electronic interface circuit, the coupling into the optical fiber and assembly of the components. The transmitter module contains a VCSEL as the light source and a monitor photodiode to stabilize the output power. The lead frame package exhibits a mechanical alignment feature for the connection of the optical fiber.

The driver chip provides electrical interface to the module and ensure stable VCSEL operation. The driver data input is a standard TTL electrical interface. And the input stage contains a trigger function for signal forming.

Amplitude and modulation of the laser current are adjusted by the monitor photocurrent and the bias resistor. The driver can also provide a sleep function. When the input signal shows no data for a period of time, the VCSEL will be shut off to minimize the power consumption of the module. This function is important for battery powered applications.
