Applied SoC Designs

Established in the second half of 2005, ASTRI's Applied SoC (System-on-Chip) Designs Team focuses on delivering embedded processing and SoC Design Technology to our customers in Hong Kong, the PRD region and the Greater China.

Within 9 months since our establishment, we have developed low-power IC Design Technology targeting at Deep- submicron (DSM) implementations, typically for 0.13u and smaller geometries.

In order to address our customers¡¦ needs for high- performance, low-power SoC implementation for multimedia applications, we are partnering with ASTRI's Enterprise and Consumer Electronics Group to develop IC level reference designs in MP3 Player IC as well as Digital Video Player IC, such as Portable-Media-Player (PMP) platforms. We aim to provide our customers with a starting point for their own designs with customized features in both hardware and software.

For the mainstream mass market, we are designing an easy-to-use, low-entry-point platform targeting 8-bit Micro-controller (MCU) development, which is in great demand in Asia, especially by small design houses in China. MCUs were used in almost all control functions like home appliances, lighting, automotives, entertainment, etc.

To accomplish our mission of customer-focused R&D, our team is partnering and engaging with major customers in the world. For instance, we are assisting a U.S.-based world-class MP3 IC provider to establish their own IC Design team in Hong Kong. We also engage in the establishment of Joint Labs with major Appliance/Entertainment manufacturers, major universities, and major research institutes in China.

We further extend our collaboration internally with ASTRI's Material & Packaging Technologies Group in the development of nanometer material with specific application in IC memory, which will significantly increase our clients' competitiveness.

All of the above are enabled by a well-experienced R&D team with both research and product development experience in areas such as System Architecture, RTL Coding, Synthesis, Timing, and Backend Design at the Deep- submicron level. Embedded Analog and Mixed Signal design is another area of our expertise. Our current plan is to expand our team to over 35 staff by the end of 2006.

Together with our extensive and industry-proven program management skills, we are able to deliver our customer- focused R&D results to the satisfaction to our stakeholders.
