Home Wireless Audio/Video Gateway Platform

   
 

ASTRI researchers have developed a Wireless Home AV Distribution Platform. It includes intelligent wireless home network gateway and smart wireless multimedia adapter. The platform provides reliable and efficient Point to Multi-points transmission for various multimedia applications, such as SDTV, IPTV, HDTV, Cable TV, Internet surfing and so on, over a standard in-home IEEE 802.11g WiFi network at the same time.

With this platform, customers would never encounter the problem of wire connection at their homes. They can freely enjoy various kinds of multimedia applications at anytime and anyplace.

The excellent performance of this platform is based on two breakthrough technologies developed by ASTRI researchers: Adaptive Beam Selection and Intelligent Quality of Service Management.

   
 
A. Adaptive Beam Selection
ASTRI researchers have developed compact antenna arrays which can form different kinds of beam pattern. We have also proposed and implemented an adaptive beam selection algorithm. It can dynamically control the compact antenna arrays and select the best beam pattern to achieve the object of larger coverage, to avoid interference coming from other ISM band devices and to generate less interference to other ISM band devices.

B. Intelligent Quality of Service Management
To achieve different quality of service requirements of various applications, an intelligent quality of service management technology is developed by ASTRI researchers. It mainly consists of two steps; the first step is classification where various kinds of traffic is classified and sent to different priority queues, with the consideration of a set of factors, such as application type, destination address and so on. In the second step, a scheduling algorithm makes decision about the transmission sequence among different priority queues.
