Practical MIMO Core Technology

MIMO's Promise

Higher data rates are increasingly necessary in upcoming wireless communications systems that provide multimedia services. Therefore, higher spectral efficiency is essential. MIMO is one of the most promising enabling technologies, which will be employed by Next-generation WiFi (IEEE802.11n), Mobile WiMAX (IEEE802.16e), 3G (3GPP WCDMA R7), and B3G (Beyond 3G)/4G. However, MIMO’s advantage in a handheld form factor remains elusive.

Where's MIMO's

ASTRI is developing MIMO technologies and taking practical limitations into consideration. Key factors like form factor, size, complexity, power consumption, and cost are integrated in our intellectual property rights development.

ASTRI's R&D on Practical MIMO Core Technologies

Theoretically, MIMO capacity and spectral efficiency grows linearly with the number of transmitting and receiving antennas. In reality and practically, there are numerous technical challenges to implement practical and efficient MIMO system on a handheld device, and only limited achievements have been made to overcome them insofar.

ASTRI's Practical MIMO Core has the characteristics of compact form factor, low complexity, low power consumption, and low cost. Its IP covers optimal placement of multiple elements, intelligent and efficient signal processing for joint optimization, and cost-effective RF section realization platforms.
